Fitbit One

I've been using this Fitbit One for a few days now and I've come to the conclusion that it really isn't worth it in terms of money. I guess it totally depends on what you want to use it for but yeah it’s pretty much just a fancier pedometer. It isn't an accurate calorie-burner counter. This device can track how many floors you go up and steps you take. Based on that information it calculates how many miles you've traversed and also shoots out a guess as to how many calories you've burned. So essentially if you do 50 push-ups and 10 pull-ups, it’ll track nothing.

I think these days people are looking for more comprehensive metrics than what this device can provide. I’m not sure if there’s anything really out there on the market that can keep track of all of the necessary biometrics needed to be a more accurate activity tracker.

The sleep tracking feature is a chore as you have to remove the device from its regular clip-on and put it in a soft wristband. After a few nights of doing this you’ll tend to just stop using it because of the hassle. And really...besides having the device tell you that you moved during x and y times throughout the evening, how are you really supposed to improve your own sleeping patterns?

Syncing is pretty slick and seamless through Bluetooth; you don’t even have to push any buttons. Just turn on your home machine while the device is on you and the small Bluetooth nubb that comes along with the package will sync with the Fitbit and then will send the data to the cloud.

Yeah overall this sucker is getting sold. I’ll wait till something more fancy comes out later like this Amiigo.

Gosh it's so rare to have a new TV Sci-Fi series to come out and unfortunately when it does, chances are that it will suck ass. This one is a perfect example. If you want to see the first few episodes, Hulu has 'em but yeah as I said the series looks to be going downhill even before it really starts.

The baseline story from the space perspective was cool but of course it was just a tease as they forced the plot to be Earth because Syfy is probably too cheap to film more green screen space scenes I bet. Yeah the whole thing has a Terra Nova feel to it and because of that fact, it will flop. Acting is sub-par, the main dude is an actor that nobody has ever heard of or wants to look at, and when you have pseudo-bad guys wearing hats that make them look like Slash, it doesn't bode well for the series.

Yeah I will probably watch one more episode, but we all know that this one is already a goner.

Your Sister's Sister (Drama 2011)

Yeah don't know why this is listed as a comedy because I didn't laugh once throughout this film. It had a kinda dumb premise with an unappealing main actor being that of Mark Duplass. Having to look at some boring dude for a few hours sure can put a damper on one's movie-watching experience.

Either way, as one can see from the trailer, dude sleeps with his best friend's (female) sister during a drunken evening all the while the BF actually liked the guy in the first place; hijinks ensues. Not the most original plot but I've seen worse.

The movie was set at a lake house near the Seattle area so we're talking gloomy and foggy with lots of plad, foresty jackets. Quite dull for ambiance. The plot and acting were blah and yeah the overall feel was too slow and pointless. Having a weak and unstable main male character really didn't help. No bueno.

Arisen, Book Three - Three Parts Dead By Michael Stephen Fuchs and Glynn James (Book 2013)

So this was the 3rd book in the main storyline as it continued to follow around the same group of SF soldiers as they try to make it to a rendezvous point to get picked up. The Continental US has been overrun by zombies but they manage to run into one well prepared survivor and her family. This part of the story was a nice addition, but at the same time a bit too convenient.

The survivor is an independent type while her husband and son aren't. They turn into red shirts from Star Trek pretty quickly and I found that plot twist pretty entertaining. Oh well, there will definitely be a fourth book that will add one more additional story line. We'll see how that plays out.

Liberal Arts (Drama 2012)

So this movie wasn't too bad, but the ending kinda sucked so that partially ruined it for me. The story revolved around this guy who I woulda hated back in college...one of those intellectual bastards who loved crappy books and enjoyed talking about how deep they were and how cultured he was because he read them. I would characterize these guys as one step above those barefoot, guitar-playing assholes who were magnets for those all sorts of insecure girls ready to make their initial mistakes in higher education.

But yeah this movie was about one of these guys who returns to his alma mater and befriends a super young chick played by Elizabeth Olsen who is actually quite good looking and not a bad actress. Unfortunate that she's related to those coked-out twins.

So yeah the whole beginning and middle of the story was great...the developing relationship between the two main characters was both interesting and compelling to watch, but then it got stupid and then the ending happened. Yeah I'll just spoil it for you and say that the guy ends up with this ugly book-reader. I wasn't rooting for the guy, but I was looking forward to Olsen making a cameo for the sake of the story, but that just didn't happen. If you're an educated person you may find this film kinda entertaining up until 65% through, but if you're not then yeah this movie will bore you to death.

Silver Linings Playbook (Romantic Drama 2012)

Pretty good movie, I enjoyed it. The primary characters were believable as highly damaged goods, but the families were also fairly realistic as well. Some dialog was spot-on and beyond direct, but it went along with the plot. There was a good amount of chemistry but most of that came from Lawrence, she certainly has the 'look' on camera.

Although I'm a fan of Jennifer Lawrence, I think that Bradley Cooper was the better actor in this one. Very convincing during his nuttier scenes. Although this movie wasn't perfect or solid, I did think it was a bit different and a good watch.
