Starcraft 2 (RTS PC Game 2010)

So at long last it is here. This is one the last games that I was looking forward to since PC-gaming in general has gradually deteriorated in quality and selection over the years. Luckily, Blizzard still cares, as they produced a squeal that met and greatly exceeded expectations.

SC2 kicked ass. The story was great, cinematic cut-scenes were terrific, and the campaign missions were both different and challenging. I still don't like "Timed" missions but I guess it goes along with the storyline. There were a lot of 'em though... I don't know how long I spent in the campaign but it only took 2 evenings to clear it on mostly-hard mode. You were mostly able to play Terran, and for a few missions, Protoss, but no Zerg with this episode. The next two should be real fun if Wings of Liberty is any such benchmark.

Most peeps love the muliplayer aspect of the SC series. Although it's OK, it is way too strategic for my tastes. Counters are too distinct so if the opponent knows what units you are creating in mass, they can just counter you and lay waste to your base. That direct type of counter is much too annoying. Sometimes I get a noob who sucks and I can easily take'em out....but other times you get these super-nutty players who will just crush you. I don't like losing so yeah...

All in all I purchased this for the single-player and I think I got my money's worth. Although I will play online with friends here and there, I doubt MP will keep my interest for too long. Sadly the key is hooked into a Battle.net account so no reselling of the game is possible. I wish more developers would create good games like this for a change, but yeah besides Diablo III and The Old Republic, I don't see anything else on the horizon.
