Frozen (Animated Adventure 2013)

It seems like it has been decades since Disney released an old-school film that reminded me of the days of Aladdin and The Little Mermaid, but this one took the cake.

The movie was good. It had a ton of songs...some were memorable while others were blah, but that's mainly because it's totally made for kids and my attention span only goes so far. The plot and characters were good as well as the animation that went along with it. No crappy Hercules or Pocahontas drawings here. The comic relief that came from the Snowman character as well as the reindeer cracked me up. Silly and all, but still funny. These seemed like genuine characters too, not like Eddie Murphy as the dragon in Mulan.

Highly recommended for the kids out there, it'll certainly be a fan favorite. Much better than Brave if anyone is wondering.

Valkeryn 2: The Dark Lands by Greig Beck (Book 2013)

What a great adventure! This book was the well awaited continuation of the story from Return of the Ancients. The end of the first book was quite the cliffhanger, as many loose plot lines were left unanswered. This story took care of all of that while adding a few more questions as to the origins of certain things in the future world.

If you liked the first book and was eager to see what happened to our main protagonist, Arn, this second book certainly didn't disappoint at all. It had all the trappings of a great sequel: new characters in new locales, old characters continuing on with the main plot line, main character development and growth, and in the end, many subplots all coalescing into one dramatic finish.

The ending of this book left it open for a third, although the story would need to be tweaked with as the whole paradox surrounding a future timeline would inevitably change. Overall it was a great young adult book that mixed in fantasy with hard, biological, and evolutionary science. Beck has yet again created fast-paced, literary escape that I just couldn't put down.

New Food

Hey, so guess what Wendy's has added to their menu...yup a Cheese and Bacon Baked Potato. I sampled it today and it wasn't bad at all. Yes the cheese tastes a bit generic and sauce-like but the bacon was real. I went home and put some sour cream on it, sprinkled on a bit of pepper, and bam! It was a meal equal to that of a burger. Not too bad for a bit under three bucks.

Craigslist Losers

You know, one place that never fails to disappoint is Craigslist. For every item you post on there, you will undoubtedly receive around 2 to 4 spam-like responses wanting you to directly email some other external address, there will be 1 to 2 real people asking for a 90% discount, and you will at least have one person who gets oh so close to closing out the transaction but at the last second will flake out and not arrive or text you about lacking in 10-30% of the needed funds.

The most infuriating is the last one since you may already be waiting at the meeting place or driving there when you get that last text informing you of a problem. So yeah last weekend the exact thing happened. 30 min from Go Time, the asshole texts me and says that he is short $40 from the set $200+ price. There were warning signs of course, such as the first text immediately asking for a meeting time and place, and the second text asking a bunch of questions that were already stated in the product description. But this is the stuff you have to deal with: flaketastic CL buyers.

Ebay + Paypal will rape you close to 20% after all is said and done so that's always the trade-off. The only good thing about Ebay is that if a guy wants to start shit and return an item, they have to have enough gumption to re-pack and get the package to a UPS Store. Thankfully most peeps are lazy so transactions usually go through without a problem.

Elysium (Sci-Fi Action 2013)

Yeah how about no. This movie was pretty lame. Everyone seemed to have super odd accents, the story was pretty boring, and nobody seemed to put any thought in what was going on. It was a jumbled mess of crap.

Sure some of the special effects were OK but these days it's on par for what Hollywood can produce. Not even Matt Damon with his above average acting skills could do anything to help with this one. No bueno kids, not worth it. I'm glad I was too lazy to drag myself to the theater towards the end of summer to watch this. Boy would I have been disappointed.
