Valkeryn 2: The Dark Lands by Greig Beck (Book 2013)

What a great adventure! This book was the well awaited continuation of the story from Return of the Ancients. The end of the first book was quite the cliffhanger, as many loose plot lines were left unanswered. This story took care of all of that while adding a few more questions as to the origins of certain things in the future world.

If you liked the first book and was eager to see what happened to our main protagonist, Arn, this second book certainly didn't disappoint at all. It had all the trappings of a great sequel: new characters in new locales, old characters continuing on with the main plot line, main character development and growth, and in the end, many subplots all coalescing into one dramatic finish.

The ending of this book left it open for a third, although the story would need to be tweaked with as the whole paradox surrounding a future timeline would inevitably change. Overall it was a great young adult book that mixed in fantasy with hard, biological, and evolutionary science. Beck has yet again created fast-paced, literary escape that I just couldn't put down.
